Khosrow Mahdavi, MD, FACP

Dr. Mahdavi is a graduate of the University of Tehran. Upon the completion of his intership at Grant Hospital of Chicago (affiliate of Northwestern University Medical School), he started residency in internal medicine, which culminated with a year of chief residency in internal medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center (major affiliate of University of Illinois School of Medicine) in Chicago between 1976 and 1979. Following which he had three years of fellowship in hematology as well as medical oncology at Metropolitan General Hospital, a teaching hospital of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. His fellowship enabled him to develop experiences in the latest evolving technologies of the day including bone marrow transplantation, etc. He has been able to continue what he believes a continuous learning process in hematology and oncology during his 23 years of tenure at Hoag Memorial Hospital. He has been involved in clinical trials at the University of California, Irvine (where he has a clinical faculty position) as well as Hoag Cancer Center. These have included stem cell transplantation, immune therapy, and related programs.
Dr. Mahdavi is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and he also has board certification by the same board in subspecialties of hematology as well as medical oncology. He has been a member of the American College of Physicians since 1979 and was elected as a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
He has been involved in local and community activities, not only by the means of participating in, but also, providing educational opportunities for the community. His humanitarian effects have led to recognition bt the National Conference for Community and Justice by honoring him with the "Humanitarian of the Year" in February 2002.
Dr. Mahadavi has served in different capacities at Hoag Memorial Hospital as Chairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee, as well as Chairman of the Division of the Department of Hematology and Oncology. He served as Chairman of the Cancer Committee and recently as an elected member of the Medical Executive Committee. He has lectured across the United States on a wide variety of subjects, but mainly cancer of the breast, lung, and prostate as well as hematological malignancies. He continues to participate and remains co-author of multiple recent publications on oncology - related journals.
Dr. Mahdavi is married and has two children. When he can find time away from his busy schedule, he enjoys sailing because it reminds him of his time in the Navy
